Addicted to attention part 1
Vanity is egotism that expresses itself primarily by craving attention. It goes on a rampage during the teenage years. High schools are filled with girls who are working to get everyone’s attention and guys who are strutting their stuff. Vanity is on parade in the malls, the media and everyday life. It even spills over into churches. Although Christians are supposed to be different, many times they get caught up in the same petty games and shallow charades.
Vanity reveals itself in many different ways. As you read through the following list, don’t examine the people in your life to discover if they deal with it; rather, take an inventory of your own heart. Search for signs of this paralyzing attitude in your life. As you will discover, vanity will expend great amounts of energy trying to ignore a person’s own flaws by pointing out the flaw of others. Don’t fall for this trap. Instead, look closely at your own life and let this speak to you about the unhealthy attitude that might be hiding somewhere deep down inside.
